Revision Brewing Co. What What (Dubious) DIPA
Bottled. No Date. ABV 9.1% IBUs 85
Appearance: Slight Hazy, Amber, Finger width fluffy white head.
Aroma: Dank, Lemon Zest, Orange Peel
Palate: Hop Heavy (YES YES YES!!), Light Malt
Finish: Dry Mouth, Smooth
Experience: Thank you Revision! You are on my list for go to beers when I need an amazing IPA. This is everything I was in an IPA; light malt, strong hop smell, and presence. You would not know that this was a 9.1% because it is so smooth with a little malt. Grade 5/5!
Agaisnt the Grain Brewery Rico Sauvin DIPA
Canned. Not Date. ABV 8.2%
Color: Amber, Hazy, Finger and Half Head
Smell: Citrus, Malt
Taste: Sweet, Malty
Aftermath: Candy, Bready
Experience: Again, another can buy. And again, I smelt malt on the nose. And guess what I got. A non-hoppy, malty, flat beer. I don’t know how old this beer is but I am so effing tired of malty IPA beers. This is my opinion. I want it juicy or I want so much hops that I need to chew on that shit. I want hoppy, dank, citrus, fruit, light body, no malt (noticed on the palate) IPA. Can you all help me out where I can get this type of IPA? Grade 3.6/5.
Uinta Detour DIPA
Canned. Best Before 10/1/17. ABV 9.5%
Color: Hazy, Amber, Red, Finger Width Head
Smell: Malt, Crackers
Taste: Carmel, Stale, Cat Piss, Sour
Aftermath: Dry Mouth, Sour, Grapefruit
Experience: I have had other beers from Uinta and really liked them. I was not a huge fan of this one but I think it is because I have figured out I am not a fan of malt. I don’t like German style of beers because how heavy the malt is. Ironic since my great grandfather was a German brewer. I like IPAs that are juice bombs or light malt and super dank! Not that this was a bad beer but just not my style. Grade 3.2/5.
Hangar 24 Iconic DIPA
Draft (Mad Duck Craft Brewing Co.). ABV 9% IBUs 118
Color: Hazy, Amber
Smell: Carmel, Nutty
Taste: Sweet, Carmel, Hazelnut, Stout Characteristics
Aftermath: Smooth, Heavy Body, Alcohol
Experience: I was excited to try this beer and I love beer in tulip glasses. I knew it was “high” ABV but was excited to try it. The nose on this beer fooled me when I tasted it and that is always unpleasant when the nose is yummy but the beer is just okay. I have had other beers from this brewery that are good but this time it was just okay. Again, I don’t know if it was the tap. This makes me think maybe not to do reviews at restaurants. This was a very heavy beer. I did not know the IBUs until after I drank the beer but I did not get that much bitterness from it. I will have to try again from a bottle or can. Grade 3.4/5.
Port Brewing Co. Mongo DIPA
Canned. Fresh by 5/7/17 (Reviewed on7/21/17). ABV 8.5%
Color: Amber, Two Finger Head
Smell: Mango, Oranges, Papaya
Taste: Hop Forward, Spices, Grapefruit
Aftermath: Dry Mouth, Orange Peel
Experience: This is my first beer from Port Brewing Co. The can alone sold me. Great beer, tropical notes, hoppy on the palate but wish I got some dank notes. But overall this was a good IPA. Looking forward to trying different beers from this brewery. Grade 4.5/5.
